A drink/pizza will be offered at the end of the session.

October 18th at ULB

The film “Maid in Hell” will be shown in its entirety in order to address in depth the issue of the exploitation of migrant women as domestic workers in the Middle East.

The reception takes place at 6:30 p.m. in room H1308 – Building H – Avenue Paul Héger 10, 1000 Brussels.

A drink will be offered at a reasonable price by AEAD (Student Association for Development Aid)

MAID IN HELL

Can an employment system conceal a reality of torture and humiliation?

Mary Kibwana, 35, was one of thousands of women who endured hell working as domestic workers in Jordan. Although she was fortunate enough to return home to Kenya, she was confined to a wheelchair and had suffered burns to 70% of her body. She died two months later, leaving behind four children.

Harassment, abuse, rape, and 18-hour workdays are commonplace for domestic workers who have traveled to the Middle East in search of employment. Trapped in the Kafala system, which ties them to their employers, their passports are confiscated. The slightest attempt to escape exposes them to the risk of severe punishment or imprisonment.

“Maid In Hell” provides unprecedented access to this frightening and brutal form of modern slavery.
