The ensemble performs a wide range of works\, from the vast Italian repertoire to German and French pieces\, with a particular focus on forgotten works by composers from the Netherlands. In just a few years\, thanks to its concerts and its extensive discography (RICERCAR)\, which has garnered numerous awards and enthusiastic reviews\, CLEMATIS has established itself as a highly acclaimed ensemble in the field of Baroque music. Since 2018\, CLEMATIS has been co-directed by violinist Stéphanie de Failly and harpsichordist Brice Sailly. \nThe exceptional Baroque Christmas Oratorio Das neugeborne Kindelein performed by the CLEMATIS Ensemble in the Church of Our Lady of Sablon will take place in a supportive\, warm and elegant atmosphere. \n\nThis philanthropic event will honour the Samilia Foundation and its impact in the fight against human trafficking. \nThe SAMILIA Foundation\nThe Samilia Foundation aims to combat human trafficking in Belgium\, other European countries\, and other countries where populations are most at risk of becoming victims. With over 15 years of experience in the fight against human trafficking\, the Samilia Foundation invites you to align your company’s social objectives with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals related to human rights\, specifically Goals 8 and 16. Furthermore\, European law imposes obligations on Member States of the European Union regarding information\, awareness-raising\, and prevention of human trafficking (Article 18 of European Directive 2011/36/EU). Human trafficking affects nearly 40 million people worldwide\, primarily women and children\, and is a modern form of slavery that violates human rights and fundamental freedoms. It concerns us all\, and each of us can make a difference. Human trafficking can manifest as sexual exploitation\, labor exploitation\, forced begging\, organ trafficking\, and forced marriages. By supporting this event\, you enable the SAMILIA Foundation to expand its work on the ground to raise awareness among potential victims of trafficking that targets and exploits the most vulnerable. \nSAMILA’s activities\nThis year\, Samilia is launching a major awareness campaign on domestic and cleaning industry exploitation. Starting on October 18\, 2021\, the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings\, with a conference bringing together various field associations and recognized experts in human trafficking\, the awareness campaign will run for several months and will include various actions: the creation of an educational resource pack\, a visual campaign on Brussels public transport; a partnership with a well-known company of household products sold in supermarkets; and many more to come. \n\nIn the context of the health crisis that continued into 2021\, Samilia decided to renew\, through a partnership with ACSIS\, its project to prevent the sexual exploitation of young mothers and children in Romania. This crisis generated a considerable increase in human trafficking: traffickers took advantage of the situation to recruit victims on social media who were largely isolated due to lockdowns. \n\n\nSamilia Samilia published an open letter in the June 22nd and 23rd editions of La Libre and Le Soir concerning the proposed reform of the Belgian Penal Code by the Minister of Justice. This reform\, currently before Parliament\, significantly weakens the tools available to judges and the police to combat human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The open letter garnered considerable attention\, and Samilia’s expertise is now being sought by numerous members of Parliament from across the political spectrum. \nThank you to our sponsors\n\n

SUMMARY:Film screening and discussion about human trafficking
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Samilia Foundation offers you two events on the issue of human trafficking. In collaboration with ACE (Association of Student Circles of ULB) and Elsa (European Law Students’ Association)\, we will present the film “Maid in Hell” (The Why Foundation)\, as part of the European Day against Human Trafficking. \n\nOctober 16th at Saint Louis University: \n\nSeveral short films will be shown\, with a particular focus on the film “Maid in Hell”. The event begins at 6:45 PM in Room 3 – Boulevard du Jardin Botanique\, 43 – 1000 Brussels. \n\nA drink/pizza will be offered at the end of the session. \n\nOctober 18th at ULB \n\nThe film “Maid in Hell” will be shown in its entirety in order to address in depth the issue of the exploitation of migrant women as domestic workers in the Middle East. \n\nThe reception takes place at 6:30 p.m. in room H1308 – Building H – Avenue Paul Héger 10\, 1000 Brussels. \n\nA drink will be offered at a reasonable price by AEAD (Student Association for Development Aid) \n\nMAID IN HELL \n\nCan an employment system conceal a reality of torture and humiliation? \n\nMary Kibwana\, 35\, was one of thousands of women who endured hell working as domestic workers in Jordan. Although she was fortunate enough to return home to Kenya\, she was confined to a wheelchair and had suffered burns to 70% of her body. She died two months later\, leaving behind four children. \n\nHarassment\, abuse\, rape\, and 18-hour workdays are commonplace for domestic workers who have traveled to the Middle East in search of employment. Trapped in the Kafala system\, which ties them to their employers\, their passports are confiscated. The slightest attempt to escape exposes them to the risk of severe punishment or imprisonment. \n\n“Maid In Hell” provides unprecedented access to this frightening and brutal form of modern slavery. \n\nDirector / SØREN KLOVBORG (DK) Producer / METTE HEIDE (DK) THE WHY FOUNDATION produces factual film series on key global issues and distributes them to broadcasters worldwide. Through stories\, they capture people from all walks of life and give us a better understanding of the world we live in. The WHY SLAVERY project\, which includes the film “Maid in Hell\,” is their third documentary series after WHY DEMOCRACY and WHY POVERTY. Speaker: \n\n\nCharles-Eric Clesse will speak as a law professor at ULB and labour auditor for Hainaut.\n\n\n\nJean-Pierre Jacques will speak as a lawyer specializing in international law. He notably defended victims of domestic exploitation in the case of the princesses from the United Arab Emirates in 2017: Brussels: 15-month suspended prison sentence for the “Conrad princesses”. \n\nYou may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know. \n– William Wilberforce\, Abolitionist\, 1807 \n \n  \nVoir la page de l’événement : https://www.facebook.com/events/146758289604249/
