The Samilia Foundation offers you two events on the issue of human trafficking. In collaboration with ACE (Association of Student Circles of ULB) and Elsa (European Law Students\u2019 Association), we will present the film \u201cMaid in Hell\u201d (The Why Foundation), as part of the European Day against Human Trafficking. <\/p> \n \n

October 16th at Saint Louis University: <\/strong><\/p> \n \n

Several short films will be shown, with a particular focus on the film “Maid in Hell”. The event begins at 6:45 PM in Room 3 \u2013 Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, 43 \u2013 1000 Brussels. <\/p> \n \n

A drink\/pizza will be offered at the end of the session.<\/p> \n \n

October 18th at ULB <\/strong><\/p> \n \n

The film \u201cMaid in Hell\u201d will be shown in its entirety in order to address in depth the issue of the exploitation of migrant women as domestic workers in the Middle East.<\/p> \n \n

The reception takes place at 6:30 p.m. in room H1308 \u2013 Building H \u2013 Avenue Paul H\u00e9ger 10, 1000 Brussels.<\/p> \n \n

A drink will be offered at a reasonable price by AEAD (Student Association for Development Aid)<\/p> \n \n

MAID IN HELL<\/strong><\/p> \n \n

Can an employment system conceal a reality of torture and humiliation?<\/em><\/p> \n \n

Mary Kibwana, 35, was one of thousands of women who endured hell working as domestic workers in Jordan. Although she was fortunate enough to return home to Kenya, she was confined to a wheelchair and had suffered burns to 70% of her body. She died two months later, leaving behind four children. <\/em><\/p> \n \n

Harassment, abuse, rape, and 18-hour workdays are commonplace for domestic workers who have traveled to the Middle East in search of employment. Trapped in the Kafala system, which ties them to their employers, their passports are confiscated. The slightest attempt to escape exposes them to the risk of severe punishment or imprisonment. <\/em><\/p> \n \n

\u201cMaid In Hell\u201d provides unprecedented access to this frightening and brutal form of modern slavery.<\/em><\/p> \n\r\n

Director \/ S\u00d8REN KLOVBORG (DK) Producer \/ METTE HEIDE (DK) THE WHY FOUNDATION produces factual film series on key global issues and distributes them to broadcasters worldwide. Through stories, they capture people from all walks of life and give us a better understanding of the world we live in. The WHY SLAVERY project, which includes the film “Maid in Hell,” is their third documentary series after WHY DEMOCRACY and WHY POVERTY. Speaker: <\/p>\r\n\r\n
